New Coal?

The Federal government is planning to set up tenders for a number of new power plants before the next election, however it appears to be emphasising coal and 'fair dinkum 24/7 generation'.

It is rushing through the process in order to have it all finalised before the caretaker period.

It is surprising that this is their priority given that the polls suggest that

• the majority of the population supports renewables over fossil fuels

• people are now willing to vote on climate

• the seats of existing coalition seats are now in danger due to independents supporting renewable energy
