It is not enough to transition our energy use to renewables.
Evidence suggests that we are almost certain to pass 1.5 degrees C above pre-industrial levels, and quite likely to fail to miss the 2 degrees C target as well.
Not only that, the current level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is already resulting in unprecedented environmental disasters.
Even if we transition completely to renewables within the next 20 years, it is going to be too late unless we also work on sequestering carbon.
As George Monbiot suggests, re-establishing complete ecosystems is one of the answers.
Another is to create carbon businesses which trap carbon, such as carbon negative concrete.
At the very least, there is a type of currently available concrete which performs like existing concrete, with much lower emissions. Take a look at this fly ash concrete.
